Am vergangenen Sonntag fand in Berlin der von ProReli initiierte Volksentscheid statt. Die Bürger waren aufgerufen, über die Frage abzustimmen, ob Berliner Schüler künftig
a) verpflichtend am allgemeinen Ethikunterricht teilnehmen sollten, wie dies schon in den vergangenen drei Jahren der Fall war, oder
b) sowohl Ethik als auch Religion als Wahlpflichtfach zur Verfügung stehen sollten.
Für einen Erfolg der ProReli-Initiative hätten 25% aller Wahlberechtigten mit „Ja“ stimmen müssen. Doch nur insgesamt 29,2 % ließen sich bei schönem Wetter in die Wahllokale locken. 51,3 % der abgegebenen Stimmen votierten gegen ProReli.
Was können wir aus diesem Ergebnis schließen?
Nun, zuerst einmal ist es eine doppelte Ohrfeige für alle Bestrebungen, unter dem Deckmäntelchen der Wahlfreiheit weiterhin alte Ideologien breitzutreten. Eine Absage an den Versuch, unsere Kinder für religiöse Vereinigungen zu instrumentalisieren.
Es ist kein Votum gegen Religion per se. Jeder Mensch ist weiterhin frei, zu glauben, oder eben nicht. Am zusätzlich angebotenen Religionsunterricht teilzunehmen, oder eben nicht.
Die Bedeutung dieses Wahlergebnisses reicht jedoch weit über its concrete consequences,. Rather, it reflects in tangible percentages, what the situation is (at least in the German capital) to the actual ratio of men to religion: Only about 29% of people are still driven about by this issue. More than half of them in an unfavorable way. This means that 70% believe the issue for so unimportant that a spring outing with bratwurst and beer, such a choice is always preferable.
This fact, dear readers, I feel as the real calming of the election results. Even a generous helping of celebrity advertising in favor of ProReli could not change this: people are now their own opinions and are quite capable to set priorities for their lives.
Head-referendum
How would assume a similar referendum in other states? If we subject ourselves and that our children may look old tradition, a practice which, on closer inspection, no longer has a majority? So maybe we miss the opportunity to install the professional ethics to coverage as a way of learning, tolerance and mutual respect?
religions should be viewed with distance in a public school. You should explain the subject of ethics, can be discussed, in their effects, positive or negative, are discussed. It is not appropriate for a state-funded school to provide a platform specific world views, but exclude others. Who

ProReli The initiative was nothing more than an attempt to maintain a mix of compulsion and habit that we had long since accepted because we know no different.

Und dazu passt es einfach nicht, schon geschäftsunfähige Kinder im Babyalter zu Zwangsmitgliedern bestimmter Vereine zu machen, noch dazu staatlich subventioniert.
